The young Brazillian man has his hand full of baked goods. I ask if it is a special occasion.

“No special occasion. I work beside a bakery and I pick them up for my wife from time to time to show her I love her. She complains that I am making her fat, but she always eats them, so I will continue to buy for her.”

“How long have you been married?” I ask.

“Three years. We are young in marriage. But we dated in Brazil for four years and then I moved to Canada. I was here a year until she joined me. So if she was willing to join me here, I would marry her. And now the sweets keep her happy in marriage.”
